The Fourth Block:
The Final Mission

Our name reflects the final and most personal challenge veterans face—transitioning from military service to meaningful civilian careers. While our veterans are trained to lead under pressure, many leave service without a roadmap for navigating the workforce or rebuilding their identity outside the uniform.

FourBlock exists to guide them through that mission.

We provide the education, resources, and community veterans need to build purposeful careers—and empower professionals and employers to stand with them on this journey. Because supporting veterans isn’t just an act of gratitude—it’s an investment in leadership, resilience, and the future of our country.

How It Started—A Story of Legacy and Purpose

FourBlock’s story begins with one life-changing conversation.

Founder Mike Abrams became friends with a WWII Iwo Jima survivor who struggled deeply after coming home. It wasn’t until his uncle pulled him out of bed one morning and got him a job that everything changed. That job didn’t just give him a paycheck—it gave him purpose, community, and a future.

He credited that moment with saving his life.

That story inspired Mike to launch FourBlock in 2010—to ensure that no veteran had to navigate the transition home alone.

From One Class in NYC to a Nationwide Community

What began with 16 veterans in New York City has grown into a nationwide movement. In 2023 alone, we welcomed more than 700 new alumni across 19 Career Readiness cohorts—including our growing Military Spouse Program. Our alumni are building impactful careers at places like PwC, Microsoft, Boeing, Tesla, Citi, and T-Mobile.

Today, the FourBlock community includes over 4,500 alumni, hired at more than 500 companies across the U.S.

Honoring the Fight Beyond the Battlefield

From 2014 to 2019, FourBlock proudly served as the official mentorship and transition partner for the U.S. Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment and the U.S. Navy Wounded Warrior – Safe Harbor Program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. As the only nonprofit command-sponsored by both branches, we provided personalized career support to more than 150 wounded, injured, and ill Marines and Sailors—many of whom faced years of recovery and dozens of surgeries.

Working alongside command leadership, each warrior was assigned to FourBlock to build a customized "One Warrior, One Mission" transition plan, aligned with their physical, emotional, and career goals. We supported them through rehab, retirement, and reintegration—and we are proud to still walk beside many of these resilient warriors today.
